It's been just over 25 years (yipes! am I that old?) since The Buggles proclaimed that "Video Killed the Radio Star." MTV certainly hoped the message was true, launching their new cable network by running that video constantly for their first 24 hours on air. In the '80s it did seem as if video was trumping radio as the medium of choice, but what about today? MTV's programming relies almost exclusively on reality shows and other productions of their own making. VH1 is a mixed bag of videos and similar programs to MTV. Radio, meanwhile, carries on and has expanded to satellite broadcasting. So, did video really win out over radio in the end? I'd like to hear your thoughts.
