Obama is an interesting example, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a department, rather than a specific individual or politician.

Headlines on this date 4 years ago:

"Republicans spending $42 million on inauguration while troops die

"Bush extravagance exceeds any reason during tough economic times"
"Fat cats get their $42 million inauguration party, ordinary
Americans get the shaft"

Headlines Today:

"Historic Obama inauguration will cost only $120 million"
"Obama spends $120 million on inauguration; America needs A Big Party"
"Everyman Obama shows America how to celebrate"
"Citibank executives contribute $8 million to Obama inauguration"

Is it safe to say that every network has sold out?

Bush was unpopular b/c of the war — so the media jumped on that bandwagon and bashed him — pulling in the largest crowd.

Obama is very popular — and that popularity has somehow trumped the importance of reporting the excessive price tag of his inauguration. Maybe b/c they want to sell papers/mags/advertising?
– Privately funded $40 million…taxpayers picked up the rest of the tab.

My question is — where can we get reliable information from journalists who value journalistic integrity and value fact-checking over shotgun printing?

Politico?
